About
What this index is, and how entries are chosen.
Elvarisik is an independent editorial index of hotels. It covers four kinds of building — art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels — and it covers them because each kind asks something unusual of the people who design and run it.
The entries are written as prose. There are no star ratings here, no scores, no user reviews and no comparison tables, partly because those instruments flatten the differences this index exists to record, and partly because we have no means of verifying them.
How properties are chosen
Properties are chosen editorially. Nothing is included in exchange for payment, and no entry is a recommendation to book: the descriptions set out what a building is and how it came to be that way, and leave the decision where it belongs.
How facts are handled
Facts are kept general and durable — how a building was originally used, what its setting is, how its season works — rather than detailed and perishable. Hotels change hands, refurbish and close; where we learn of a change, the entry is revised.
The site has no geographic allegiance. A property appears because it is interesting within its category, not because of the country it stands in.
